I installed a new motor.  This is a Faulhaber 1016 coreless with a 4:1 gearhead.  I had to grind/ream out the frame cavity extensively to make room for the new motor.  I extended the motor shaft with a piece of 2mm diameter stainless surgical tubing, inserted a piece of 2mm steel shaft in the end of that, and finally, bored out the worm to 2mm and mounted it on the extended shaft.  The motor is clamped firmly in place between the frame halves, like the original.  It is wrapped in masking tape to prevent it from shorting the frame halves together, because they carry the left and right rail current.
