I added this siding with coal dock, water tower, and yard shack after testing the trackwork early in the layout’s construction.  I realized that I might occasionally need a pusher for trains headed up the mountain, and this was the perfect place to store a helper engine.  Here is a case where the terrain actually influenced the construction of an operational railroad feature, just like in real life.
